Step Inside This House Lyrics

That picture hangin' on the wall
Was painted by a friend
He gave it to me all down and out
When he owed me tenIt doesn't look like much I guess
But it's all that's left of him
It sure is nice from right over here
When the light's a little dimStep inside this house girl
I'll sing for you a song
I'll tell you 'bout just where I've been
It shouldn't take too longI'll show you all the things that I own
My treasures you might say
It couldn't be more then ten dollars worth
They brighten up my dayAnd this book of poems was given to me
By a girl I used to know
I guess I read it front to back
Fifty times or soIt's all about the good life
And stayin' at ease with the world
It's funny how I love that book

And I never loved that girlStep inside this house girl
I'll sing for you a song
I'll tell you 'bout just where I've been
It shouldn't take too longI'll show you all the things that I own
My treasures you might say
It couldn't be more then ten dollars worth
That brighten up my dayAnd you hold this piece of glass
Up to the light that's shining through the door
It's a prism glass I found it on the road
And can't you see that tiny rainbow? It's not really a prism I guess
It just kinda broke a funny way
I was on my way through Houston
And I was headed for L.A.And step inside this house girl
I'll sing for you a song
I'll tell you 'bout just where I've been
It shouldn't take too longI'll show you all the things that I own
My treasures you might say
It couldn't be more then ten dollars worth
That brighten up my dayAnd this guitar was given me
By an old man Thomas Gray
It's not too much to look at
But I play it everydayIt's been across this country
Four or five times I guess
Between me and old man Tom
It never got much restStep inside this house girl
I'll sing for you a song
I'll tell you 'bout just where I've been
It shouldn't take too longI'll show you all the things that I own
My treasures you might say
It couldn't be more then ten dollars worth
That brighten up my dayAnd that's just about all that I own
All I care to I guess
Except this pair of boots maybe
And that funny yellow vestAnd that leather jacket and that leather bag
And hat hangin' on the wall
Just so it's not too much to carry be
Could I see you again next fall?Step inside this house girl
I'll sing for you a song
I'll tell you 'bout just where I've been
It shouldn't take too longI'll show you all the things that I own
My treasures you might say
It couldn't be more then ten dollars worth
That brighten up my day

Lyle Lovett is an americana singer-songwriter and actor from Klein, Texas, who has been described as "the thinking man's cowboy". While typically associated with the alt-country genre, his albums typically incorporate folk, swing, blues, jazz and gospel music as well as more traditional country & western styles. The Night's Lullaby Songfacts reports that after twenty-six years with Curb, Lyle Lovett released his eleventh and last album for the record label, Release Me, on February 28, 2012. The record is mainly made up of covers that Lovett has played, but never got round to recording.

The four-time Grammy winner has acted in a number of films and been a guest-star on television. Lovett was married to actress Julia Roberts for a short time in the mid-1990s. In 2002, he was gored by a bull while working on his uncle's farm in Texas, but soon recovered and resumed touring.
