Steppin' The Stones Lyrics

I was your steppin' stone
I was your little dog's bone
But now you've made it without me
You know all about me
And that's all rightYou cry
The whole night long
I try
Love's right and wrong
And now the sun's sleepin' through
And it's down on you, too
It's just not fairNow what is right is right
And what's done's done
But before you come 'round my door, woman
Gonna see where you're comin' from
Better count up your change
And put a smile on your mind
Before you want away for any more of my time
I couldn't have loved you better

I could have loved you worse
I know what comes last baby
And you've known it from the firstI was your steppin' stone
I was your little dog's bone
But now you've made it without me
You know all about me
And that's all right

The S.O.S. Band is an American funk / soul musical ensemble, founded in Atlanta, Georgia, USA in 1977. The "SOS" acronym stands not for "Save Our Souls", but for "Sounds of Success". The band, fronted by Mary Davis, was initially famous for the post-disco hit "Take Your Time (Do It Right)" in 1979. In 1982, they joined forces with then-new production team Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, who went on to craft a string of R&B hits for the group, including "Just Be Good to Me", "Tell Me If You Still Care", "Feeling", and "Borrowed Love".
