Strong Enough Lyrics

Trying to figure out
Just where your life is goin'
Can you see the picture
In the purple sky?
Silently you're walkin'
But where are you headin'?Questions terrorize, ah, yeah
Space inside your mind, ah, yeahAre you strong enough for love?
Are you strong enough for peace?
Are you strong enough to die?
Tell me whyI'm strong enough for you
Are you strong enough for me?
'Cause down, down in the city
Love ain't always prettyThey try to take your soul and mind
But you won't let them
Never wear your destiny
Outside your smile
Always talk in riddles
So you keep them guessingNever criticize, ah, yeah

Keep an open mind, ah, yeahAre you strong enough for love?
Are you strong enough for peace?
Are you strong enough to die?
Tell me whyI'm strong enough for you
Are you strong enough for me?
'Cause down, down in the city
Love ain't always prettyThey're holding out their hands
Begging for some time
Can you spare a shilling
Can you spare a life?
You try to give them food
But they just refuse youDeep down inside, ah, yeah
You know you've triedAre you strong enough for love?
Are you strong enough for peace?
Are you strong enough to die?
Tell me whyI'm strong enough for you
Are you strong enough for me?
'Cause down, down in the city
Love ain't always pretty'Cause are you strong enough?
Strong enough for me?
Strong enough
Strong enough to seeStrong enough
Strong enough to be
'Cause down, down in the city, yeah
Love ain't always prettyStrong enough for love?
Are you strong enough for peace?
Strong enough to die?
Tell me whyStrong enough for me
Oh, I'm strong enough for you
'Cause down, down in the city, yeah
Love ain't always pretty, noYou're strong enough for me
I'm strong enough for you
You're strong enough to see
That down, down in the city
Yeah yeah, yeah yeah, yeah yeah
Love ain't so pretty

Des'ree, born Desiree Weeks on November 30, 1968 in London, England was one of Britain's most successful pop/soul vocalists throughout the 1990s. She changed her name from Desiree Weeks because she preferred a two-syllable name.

In 1994 the hit single "You Gotta Be" hit Billboard Top 5 and was a hit in the UK three times. It also allowed Des'ree to break into America. "You Gotta Be" was also a major hit in the United States, and it was featured in the movie The Next Karate Kid, starring Hilary Swank. The second song from Des'ree's second album, "Crazy Maze" featured in the movie Nothing to Lose. Coincidentally, her last album ("Dream Soldier") featured a song entitled "Nothing to Lose". Her song "Kissing You" featured on the 1996 Baz Luhrman movie "Romeo + Juliet" and is generally considered to be one of her greatest works and a showcase for her distinctive and impressive vocals.

In 1999, she won a Brit Award for the British Female Solo Artist category. Her 2003 release Dream Soldier was considerably less successful.
