Sumthin's Gotta Give (feat. Mary J. Blige) Lyrics

It's funny right? They say things done change
No more messages in the music, record sales down, gas prices up
No more love in your love, no more love for your love
Change is long overdue, Mary, something's gotta give, Big BoiYou can trot around the planet or watch it on the news
Sombody's getting shot, the weather man's looking confused
He's reporting to a nation full of zombies strung out on starbucks
And stitched up and bitching AbercrombieUh, don't get it mixed up me too
I have insomnia at times but don't be walkin' 'round here blind
Nigga feelin' all around, trying to find a righteous path
It's appealin' when I rhymeSo everytime I hit the masses, you know the common folk
Blue collared day to day workers
That squeeze a dollar so they baby can swallow
A little not a lota just enough to fill that bottleBut it's a million dollars a gallon for some gas to get to work
Tomorrow that's if you gotta get it, you can't swim in carpool
You Rob Peter to pay Paul to make due
Make you wanna write a note and take a pistol to that bank too
And pass it to the teller but you know betterThey trying to tell us to stay strong
But every day we losing jobs

From College Park out to Beverly Hills
Somethin's gonna have to giveAcross the world they live in fear
But it's the same thing over here
If you can hear me on Capitol Hill
Somethin's gonna have to giveThe great debators debate about who's the greatest MC
Subject matter don't matter because the verse is empty
No food for thought nothing for the brain to digest
So I guess it'd be about who can bullshit the bestBut I give them light on like the traffic I direct
Inspiring their life like they was actors on my set
As if I was a pilot, take'em higher then a jet
I'd be a liar if I wasn't sick and tired of this messThey trying to tell us to stay strong
Nut every day we losing jobs
(Everyday, everyday)
From College Park out to Beverly Hills
Somethin's gonna have to give
(Give it up y'all)Across the world they live in fear
But it's the same thing over here
(Over here, yeah)
If you can hear me on Capitol Hill
Somethin's gonna have to give
(Oh, yeah)Single mother in a struggle and it's no fun
But you don't really understand until you are one
A child is sick and is losing he's endurance
She want to fix him but she 'aint got no insuranceNow we don't even want to talk about the man's life
Out on parol with the promise that he'll do right
But a felon has no chance for a new start
So it's back to doing hand in hand on his own blockAnd blacks and whites we're all the same and I know you feel my pain
And the only hope I have to help me deal with the drama
Is that maybe in November I'll be cheering for ObamaThey trying to tell us to stay strong
(Yeah)
But everyday we losing jobs
(Every day)
From College Park out to Beverly Hills
(Ooh)
Somethin's gonna have to give
(Give it up, give it up)Across the world they live in fear
But it's the same thing over here
(Over here)
If you can hear me on Capitol Hill
(Listen to me now)
Something's gonna have to give
(Give it up y'all)The world is too big
Free your mind or be stuck like porcupine left behind
That's the bottom line gotta find the grind
'Cause the time won't be coming back around, get it now niggaThe world is too big
Step on the stars while you're reaching for the sun
But never burn a bridge, each one, teach one
If you lend a helping hand, you may never be oneThe world is too big
And I heard him say that every man, woman
And child was gonna be okay
I heard him say that they would bring
Our soldiers home in one piece todayThe world is too big but it's not that way
They've been selling us a dream telling us
We on the same team
Now we all gotta deal with the liesThey trying to tell us to stay strong
(Yeah)
But everyday we losing jobs
(Every day)
From College Park out to Beverly Hills
Somethin's gonna have to give
(Have to give)Across the world they live in fear
(Oh yeah)
But it's the same thing over here
(Over here)
If you can hear me on Capitol Hill
(I know you hear me)
Somethin's gonna have to give
(Yeah)

Antwan André Patton (born February 1, 1975 in Savannah, Georgia), better known by his stage name Big Boi, is an American Grammy Award winning rapper, producer, actor and half of the critically and commercially successful hip hop duo OutKast. Big Boi met André 3000 while attending high school in the 1980s and the two eventually joined forces as OutKast and signed with LaFace Records. After six successful albums as a duo they both decided to work on solo projects, and Big Boi's debut solo album Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty was released July 6, 2010 and his second solo album, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors, will be released on November 13, 2012. The Mama Told Me Songfacts reports that his sophomore set's title is a dedication of sorts to his recently deceased grandmother.

He can be identified by his rapid delivery and intricate rhymes, a style which has become more distinct since the album ATLiens.

In addition to his OutKast and Dungeon Family work, Big Boi has featured in other artists' songs. His most notable guest appearances were on the 1999 Missy Elliott hit, "All N My Grill," the Youngbloodz' "85 South," and Trick Daddy's 2001 single "In Da Wind."

After four increasingly successful albums as a duo since 1991, André 3000 decided to make a solo album as a side project. Big Boi also produced a solo effort, and the two albums were packaged together as Speakerboxxx/The Love Below in 2003. Big Boi's single from the album, The Way You Move featuring Sleepy Brown, was originally supported by urban radio then crossed over to pop charts. When "The Way You Move" supplanted Hey Ya! as the #1 song on the US pop charts, OutKast achieved the rare honor of a group replacing itself at the top of the charts. The second single from Big Boi's side of the album was Ghetto Musick, which featured André 3000 and a sample from Patti LaBelle's Love, need & want you.

Def Jam Records has announced "Sir Lucious Left Foot: the Son of Chico Dusty," a Big Boi solo effort will be released in the summer of 2010.

He released a mixtape/compilation album, "Got Purp? Vol 2," in conjunction with the Purple Ribbon All-Stars in November 2005 on Purple Ribbon Records. The first single from the album was "Kryptonite", which cracked the Billboard Hot 100 and was a hit on hip hop radio.

Big Boi is married to Sherlita Patton, with whom he has two children: a daughter, Jordan, and a son , Bamboo. His oldest son, Antwan Jr., is from a prior relationship. Numerous references to the Patton family are present in Big Boi's rhymes.

His younger brother James raps under the name Lil' Brotha, and is a member of hip hop group Konkrete.

Big Boi and André 3000 star in "Idlewild," a film about music in the Depression-era South. It was released in August 2006.

Big Boi also appeared in season 3 of Nick Cannon's "Wildin' Out," as well as guest starring and appearing as a musical guest on "Chappelle's Show." Besides "Idlewild" he has appeared in T.I.'s movie, "ATL," and starred in "Who's Your Caddy?"
