Surprise Lyrics

Nights alone why do you waste your time when I’m so close by…
Seven blocks and nineteen houses make your way back to my side.
You’ve been your whole life in your self
I would never try to stop you.
I’m not what you thought you wanted, I could be your great surprise.
Picture me upon your knee, just tea for two and two for tea.
One for you nineteen for me, we’ll listen while you fall asleep.
You can’t live your life in your self.
But if you want to try, I can love you.
I’m not what you thought you wanted, but I could be your great surprise.
I’m not what you thought you wanted, I could be your great surprise

With its bold new brand of acoustic music, Joy Kills Sorrow pushes right through the envelope and out the other side. The Boston-based stringband brings a decidedly modern sensibility to an old-world sound, channeling the prodigious talents of its individual members into elegant arrangements and well-crafted songs. While the group pays due homage to its Bluegrass roots—its name is taken from WJKS, a radio station that broadcasted the Monroe brothers’ show in the 1930s—the band truly excels in its rich and textured treatment of more contemporary material.
