Take It to Heart Lyrics

We take it to heart
with benevolence in our minds
But the will is weak
and intentions are lost in time
We rationalize
and trace our thoughts to times before
When we echoed advertising
and the quest to consume even moreCall it ignorance or greed
or just a breach in our compassion
That keeps us drowning in decay
We've got to reconnect ourselves
and make it something more than fashion
Before we burn it all away
We learn to ignore
diverting eyes from proof
Deciding comfort is more
consequential than the truth
As our humanity wanes

and the blood runs thick upon our hands
We embrace the weakest path
deciding not to make our standCall it ignorance or greed
or just a breach in our compassion
That keeps us drowning in decay
We've got to reconnect ourselves
and make it something more than fashion
Before we burn it all away
Catatonic invertebrate
convenience holds our fate
Will not endeavor to defy
If might makes right the way it's read
a purpose for which none were bred
What will our madness justify?Decrepit slaughterhouses drowning in the filth
Of mutilation
incarceration
Disease and pestilence devoured all the sameCall it ignorance or greed
or just a breach in our compassion
That keeps us drowning in decay
We've got to reconnect ourselves
and make it something more than fashion
Before we burn it all away

Good Riddance is a punk rock band hailing from Santa Cruz, California. They formed in 1986 and after over twenty years, eight albums, and countless tours, played their farewell show in 2007 but reunited in 2012. They played fast and explosive punk and hardcore music that was heavily influenced by the early American hardcore scene. The lyrical themes varied from political protests and analysis of the American society, to personal struggles and alienation. On occasion, the band had also been known to write slower, sometimes romantic songs.
