Tea for Two Lyrics

I'm discontented
With homes that are rented
So I have invented my ownDarling this place is
A lover's oasis
Where life's weary chase is unknownFar from the cry of the city
Where flowers pretty
Caress the streamsCozy to hide in,
To live side by side in
Don't let it abide in my dreamsPicture me upon your knee
With tea for two, and two for tea
Me for you, and you for me
AloneNobody near us
To see us or hear us
No friends or relations
On weekend vacationsWe won't have it known
That we own
A telephoneDay will break
And you'll awake

And I will bake
A sugar cake
For you to take
For all the boys to seeWe will raise a family
A boy for you and a girl for me
Can't you see
How happy we would be

Blossom Dearie (1926-2009) was an American jazz singer and pianist. Born on 28th April 1926 in East Durham, New York, of mixed Scottish and Norwegian ancestry, Dearie began her career in vocal groups in New York. In the early 1950s she moved to Paris, forming her own vocal group, The Blue Stars, later to become the Swingle Singers. After signing to Verve, Dearie returned to the U.S. where, despite developing a successful career and achieving international fame, by 1974 the lack of interest from major labels led her to start her own label, Daffodil Records.
