Terrible Thing Lyrics

I did something horrible
I did a terrible thing
I did something horrible
I did a terrible thing
I gave up (you say)
I gave up (you say)
I gave up (you say)
I just threw it all away
I did something horrible
I did a terrible thing
Up in the Bronx
Where the white goose honks
And the trees spread out
like soldiers

There's a miscreant's pay
That gets socked away
in an empty can of Folger's
I did something horrible--
Down in the ground
where the worms dance 'round
'cause their dinner
came unwrapped
There's a piece of a guy
who refused to lie --
A knee and thigh
but he got himself trapped
That's me down there
With the blood in my hair
And my face
down in the clover
I was alive
at nine forty-five
But now my time is over
