The Afterlife Lyrics

After I died and the makeup had dried
I went back to my place
No moon that night but a heavenly light
Shone on my faceStill I thought it was odd, there was no sign of God
Just to usher me in
Then a voice from above, sugar coated with love said
"Let us begin"You got to fill out a form first
And then you wait in the line
You got to fill out a form first
And then you wait in the lineOkay, a new kid in school, got to follow the rule
You got to learn the routine
Whoa, there's a girl over there with the sunshiny hair
Like a homecomin' queenI said, "Hey, what you say? It's a glorious day
By the way how long you've been dead?"
Maybe you, maybe me, maybe baby makes three
But she just shook her headYou got to fill out a form first
And then you wait in the line
You got to fill out a form first

And then you wait in the lineBuddha and Moses and all the noses
From narrow to flat
Had to stand in the line, just to glimpse the divine
What you think about that?Well, it seems like our fate to suffer
And wait for the knowledge we seek
It's all His design, no one cuts in the line
No one here likes to sneakYou got to fill out a form first
And then you wait in the line
You got to fill out a form first
And then you wait in the lineAfter you climb, up the ladder of time
The Lord God is near
Face to face, in the vastness of space
Your words disappearAnd you feel like swimming in an ocean of love
And the current is strong
But all that remains when you try to explain
Is a fragment of songLord is it, bebop-a-lula or ooh-poppa-do?
Lord, bebop-a-lula or ooh-poppa-do
Bebop-a-lula

Paul Frederic Simon (born October 13, 1941 in Newark, New Jersey) is an American singer, songwriter and guitarist. He first gained world-wide recognition as the writing talent behind the popular American folk-rock duo Simon & Garfunkel formed with fellow musician Art Garfunkel. When Simon & Garfunkel split in 1970, Simon quickly began his solo career with the release of the self-titled album, Paul Simon. This was followed by There Goes Rhymin' Simon and Still Crazy After All These Years, both of which featured chart-topping hits such as Loves Me Like A Rock and Kodachrome. In 1986 Simon released the immensely popular Graceland, which featured the groundbreaking use of African rhythms and performers Ladysmith Black Mambazo. In 1990, he followed up Graceland with the successor album The Rhythm of the Saints which featured Brazilian and Cajun musical themes. These albums helped to popularize world music as a genre.

He co-wrote the unsuccessful, but critically-acclaimed musical The Capeman with Nobel-winning poet Derek Walcott in 1997. His most recent album, Surprise, was produced by Brian Eno.

Paul Simon still tours occasionally, both as a solo artist and with his old musical partner Art Garfunkel. He is married to Edie Brickell.

In 1994 Paul Simon held 14 sold out concerts in Nantes (France) with International professional fusion players: Nino Manore (Italy), Francis Mc Gowan (UK), Gissele Masarde (France), Nikša Sviličić (Croatia), and others.
