The Altar and the Door Lyrics

Careless, I am reckless
I'm a wrong way traveling, slowly unraveling, shell of a man
Burn out, I'm so numb now
That the fire's just an ember way down in the corner
Of my cold, cold heartLord, this time, I'll make it right
Here at the altar I lay my life
Your kingdom come and my will was done
My heart is broken as I cryLike so many times before
I flood my eyes
I try before I leave the floor
Oh Lord, I try
(I'll try)But this time Jesus how can I be sure?
I would not lose my follow through
Between the altar and the doorHere at the altar
Oh, my world so black and white
How could I ever falter
What you've shown me to be right?Lord, this time
(Lord, this time)

I'll make it right
(Make it right)
Here at the altar I lay my life
Your kingdom come, but my will was done
My heart is broken as I cryLike so many times before
But my eyes are dry before I leave the floor
Oh Lord, I try
(I'll try)But this time Jesus how can I be sure?
I would not lose my follow through
Between the altar and the doorI'm trying so hard
To stop trying so hard
Just let you be who you are
Lord, who You are in meJesus, I'm trying so hard
To stop trying so hard
Just let you be who you are
Lord, who You are in meOh Lord, I cry
Like so many times before
But my eyes are dry before I leave the floor
Oh Lord, I try
(I'll try)But this time Jesus how can I be sure?
I would not lose my follow through
Between the altar and the doorCry
(My eyes are dry)
Like so many times before
(So many times)
But my eyes
Are dry before I leave the floorOh Lord, I try
(I'll try)
But this time Jesus how can I be sure?
I would not lose my follow through
Between the altar and the doorTry
(Trying so hard)
Like so many times before
(Try so hard)
Such [Incomprehensible]
Dry before I leave the floor

Casting Crowns is a Christian band that employs a soft rock music style. The band was created by youth pastor Mark Hall who also serves as a lead vocalist. The band previously served and performed in a youth group in Atlanta.

Discovered by, among others, contemporary Christian music legend Steven Curtis Chapman, Casting Crowns got a recording contract and vaulted to popularity in 2003 with songs such as If We Are The Body and Who Am I. The Until The Whole World Hears Songfacts reports that Casting Crown's 2009 Until The Whole World Hears album recorded 167,000 sales in its first week, the largest selling debut week sales figures by a Christian artist in Nielsen Soundscan history.

Casting Crown's fifth album, The Well, was released on October 18, 2011. According to The Well Songfacts, as with previous records, it draws inspiration from the band's ministry efforts at its home church, Eagles Landing Baptist Church outside of Atlanta, where Mark Hall serves as youth pastor.

Before Casting Crowns was created they were known as New Life Rookies which split into two bands, one being Casting Crowns and the other a smaller band South Avenue.
