The Chokin Kind Lyrics

I only meant to love you
Didn't you know it, baby
Didn't you know itWhy couldn't you be content
With the love I gave, oh yeah
I gave you my heart
But you wanted my mind, oh yeahYour love scares me to death boy
Oh, it's the choking kind
That all it isSee you can kill a girl
With a bottle of poison or a knife
I know you can but it'll hurt her more
To take her pride, it'll ruin her life
Oh, it's a shame, it's a shame, boyWhatever it is, boy
I surely hope you find, oh yeah
I tell you that hat, hmm
Don't fit my head
Oh, it's the choking kindIt make me want to
Hmm, hmm, hmm, hmmWhen you fall in love again, boy
Take a tip from me, oh yeah

Ooh, if you don't like the peach
Then walk on by the tree
That's what you better do honey, honeyFind what you want boy
Keep it, treat it sweet and kind, oh yeah
Oh, let it breathe
Don't go makin'
It the choking kindDon't break your heart baby, baby
I know you love me, truly, truly
Really I do, honey
But your love scares me to death, boy
It's the choking kindThat's all it is, that's all it is
Yeah, yeah, oh, ooh

Roy Buchanan's (September 23, 1939 - August 14, 1988) musical career began in Pixley, California. His father was a sharecropper (not a Pentecostal preacher as Buchanan himself had claimed). Buchanan told how his first musical memories were of racially-mixed revival meetings his family would attend. "Gospel," he recalled, "that's how I first got into black music". He in fact drew upon many disparate influences while learning to play his instrument (although he later claimed his aptitude was derived from being "half-wolf").
