The Flattery Stakes Lyrics

Get what you want while you can
I'm a generous man but no fool
The sequins were sewn on by hand by my mother
The false eye is a jewelI'm wonderful, so marvellous. but flattery's superfluousBut when I'm lonely
What's left but a voidSo get what you can while you want
I'm a generous man who said fool
The toupee was fashioned by craftsmen, draughtsmen
The cigar is a ruse
I'm meticulous, ridiculous and totally fastidiousBut when I'm lonely
I haven't a friendSo get if you want what you can
I'm a generous fool some say man
I'll meet you outside on the pitch with the others
Or one afternoon with a band
Or one afternoon with a bandBut when I'm lonely
Who's real and who's who
Get what you want while you can
(If you want it you can get it)
Get what you can while you want

(If you want it you can get it)
Get if you want what you can

Greenslade is an English progressive rock band originally formed in 1972 by Dave Greenslade (keyboards & vocals), Tony Reeves (bass), Dave Lawson (keyboards & vocals) and Andrew McCulloch (drums). Their two-keyboard, no-guitar lineup distinguished them from other bands in the genre. Greenslade and Reeves had been original members of Colosseum. Lawson was previously a member of Samurai and McCulloch was briefly a member of King Crimson, playing drums on that band's third album, Lizard (1970).
