The Glory of Kilburn Lyrics

I confess, I'm not an educated man.
But I know a thing or two
of this rich and wond'rous world.
I've seen the valleys of Wales,
From the banks of Dublin Bay.
And the Lochs of Argyll
From the seaward slopes of Bray.
The towers of Manhattan!
From the tip of McGillycuddy Reeks.
But there's a place I know has magic in the air,
And fortune smiles on those who journey there.
He kissed his auld mammy farewell at Dun Laoghaire,
And sailed on the Holyhead ferry.
With cake in his pockets for keepin' him cheery,

An' whiskey for makin' him merry.
But as he alighted his carriage at London,
A chorus o' Dubliners greeted him there,
And they lifted him high on their shoulders
an' sang of Kildare as they followed the highway to
Kilburn!
Town of tomorrow,
Where hunger and sorrow
are nothin' but words in historical tomes.
We should all be so bless'd with the luck of the man
who inherits the promise,
The magic,
The glory of Kilburn.
They say that the streets are abloom with young maidens
as fair as you'd find in Killarney.
And work is a plenty if you can persuade 'em
your brawn is as good as your blarney.
The taverns are filled with limey's and fenians,
"Aside with the grievances, on with the craic!"
Sure, they'll all be good friends for as long as they're knockin' 'em back,
In the Irish Republic of
Kilburn!
Beacon of verity,
Hope an' prosperity,
Peace to yer brother an' long live the King,
We should all raise a glass to Britannia herself,
For the favour,
The taverns,
The ladies,
The magic,
The promise,
The mountains,
The glory of Kilburn.
When Father McGlory delivers a sermon,
His words are devoutly attended.
And after confession his flock are determined
their ways will be duly amended.
But having partook of Holy Communion,
They're gaggin' as soon as they get to the bar,
Oh there's somethin' in bread makes an Irishman thirst for a jar,
And there's plenty of Guinness in
Kilburn!
City if deity,
Worship and gaiety,
Sing unto Jesus, rejoice in the Lord.
We should all say a prayer for the town of our dreams,
For the Fathers,
The ladies,
The chapels,
The taverns,
The masses,
The riches,
The claret,
The Guinness,
The promise,
The wonder,
The favour,
The mountains!
The magic,
The glory of...
...Kilburn!
