The Land Lyrics

This land is mine to the end of time
None it shall claim or conquer
The mountains high : the endless sky
The forests and the seaOh land rejoice : your son has sailed
Beyond the seas : adventurous trail
Now heading north : to Asa Bay
My place of birth : home of the braveA man he may wither away
Or die in battle with sword in hand
But the river will flow and the wind will blow
Forever across my northern landThis land is mine to the end of time
None it shall claim or conquer
The mountains high : the endless sky
The forests and the seaOh fatherland : oh Northstar high
Two hundred days and night have I
Been away from you my hearts most dear
Returning home : great wealth to shareWork those oars : the wind is still
No southern breeze our sail to fill
The dusk is here and our bay is far

The Dragon soon to sweep the night
So work these oars an Sorsemen : brother's rowThe land where deep in heavy turf the bones and crushed skulls testify
The violent times and troubled days when land was claimed
And paid for in blood and human livesThe land where gold of star will glow in silvery water
And on black wings high the ravens soar above
The glade where as child I was baptized in fire and ice

Bathory was a Swedish extreme metal band formed in Vällingby in 1983 and named after the infamous Hungarian countess, Elizabeth Báthory. The band's frontman and main songwriter was Quorthon (Thomas Forsberg). Bathory's first four albums were "the blueprint for Scandinavian black metal". The band departed from this style on their fifth album, Hammerheart (1990), which is often cited as the first Viking metal album. Bathory continued in the Viking metal style throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, although the band returned to thrash metal with the albums Requiem (1994) and Octagon (1995).
