The Mero Lyrics

There's somebody under the bed
Whoever can it be?
I feel so very nervous
I call for Joanlee
When Joanlee lights the candle
But there's no one there and it's
Hey! Hi! Diddeleedai
And out goes she
Skipping rope still turning
Children at their play
In and out of Clarendon Street
In and out to pray
I haven't prayed for twenty years
Nor sung a happy song
Since praying went with innocence
And the devil played along

And we all went up to the Mero singing
Hey there! Who's your man?
It's only Johnny '40 coats'
Sure he's a desperate man
A bang, bang shoots the buses
With his golden key and it's
Hey! Hi! Diddeleedai
And out goes she hey!
My mother was a sailor
And my father loved to tan
She loved her ham and sausages
And her soldier fancy man
Nora's up in Jacobs
And Mary's on the town
And I joined the transport union
When they said my nose was brown
Well my uncle had a wolfhound
That never had to pee
When Hairy Lemon snatched him whole
Down on Eden quay
But now I've got me primos
And me scapulars are blue
For helping all the babies
And Dolly Fossett too
And we all went up to the Mero singing
Hey there! Who's your man?
It's Alfie Byrne out walking
Sure he's a decent man
A bang, bang shoots the buses
With his golden key and it's
Hey! Hi! Diddeleedai
And out goes she hey!
Well it's true that Dublin's changing
Since the pillar was blown down
By the winds of violence
That are blowing up the town
Well we used to solve a difference
With a digging match and a jar
But now we're playing bang-bang
And it's going to bleed far
And we all went up to the Mero singing
Hey there! Who's your man?
It's Brendan Behan out walking
Sure he's a ginger man
A bang, bang shoots the buses
With his golden key
And it's Hey! Hi! Diddeleedai
And out goes she
And we all went up to the Mero singing
Hey there! Who's your man?
It's Patrick Pierce out walking
Sure he's another man
A bang, bang shoots the buses
With his golden key
And it's Hey! Hi! Diddeleedai
And out goes she
And it's Hey! Hi! Diddeleedai
And out goes she

Formed in 2006, the band has gone through a few lineup changes, but still remains a hard hitting presence in the Irish music scene in Upstate NY. Steve Ladue’s drums provide the perfect heartbeat to the living thing that is 1916. He has played in several bands over the years and brings his experience to the table as a truly gifted performer. The etherial guitar stylings of Tony Thireos take us from metal to blues in the blink of an eye, but always leave us wanting for more. Just watch your whiskey around this guy!
