The Reoccuring Dream Lyrics

This is the reoccurring dream
Born in the dreary gap between
What we have now
And what we wish we could have
More fulfilling and less frustratingOut of the envy in our eyes
Look! Glamorous picture, people rise
Radiant! Gleaming us down
From screens and pages
Oh, glamour! Before your very eyes!Isn't it true, isn't it true?
Good question! I know!
Who cares?
Look here, they tell you
If you had this, if you had thatLatest styles and colors
If we had that for us
Mmm!
Wouldn't it be fabulous? If you had that house, car, bottle, jar
Your lovers would look like movie stars
Movie stars, movie starsOrder your youth secrets of the stars

Call now! Just $9.99!Our discontent is their delight
They offer relief for the purchased price
Love in a bottle, love on four wheels
Is that our new car, Charles?Isn't it true, isn't it true?
We guarantee it
Pick up your phone and dial
See here, they sell you
If you had this, if you had thatI want a new truck!
More power!
If you use this shampoo
True love will come to youIf you had that house, car, bottle, jar
Your lovers would look like movie stars
Movie stars, movie stars
Hollywood's greatest legends, movie starsRecognize this?
Dreamer
Soft sexy hair
Dream on
He's gonna love me
In this ruby, ruby lipstickOthers will notice!
Sexy!
Who cares?Recognize this?
Dreamer
Latest styles and colors
Oh, dream on
Dream on, dream onThe fashion looks
You've been hoping for
Sexy, sexyRecognize this?
Dreamer
So special
Dream on
We will have happiness
In HeavenThe place you dreamed
Of retiring to
Who cares?Recognize this?
Dreamer
I know that glamour
Sexy!
Oh, dream on dreamerWhat could go wrong?
Dream on
Who cares?Recognize this?
Dreamer
I'm afraid I can't go below two million
Dream on
Life would be easy
If I had that new applianceFood processors
For all of us
Who cares?Recognize this?
Dreamer
There are lots of strings
Dream on
We can solve everything
In scienceNaturally
Science, it's a picture of how to get
What you want out of lifeRecognize this?
Dreamer
I love it!
DreamerIsn't there some other way?
Who cares?

Joni Mitchell, CC, (born Roberta Joan Anderson; 7 November 1943 - Fort Macleod, Alberta, Canada) is a musician, singer-songwriter, poet and painter. Mitchell began singing in small nightclubs in her native Western Canada and then busking on the streets of Toronto. Her writing and art talent emerged before her exposure as a gifted musician performing in Western Canada, including Winnipeg, where she met Neil Young. She then associated with the burgeoning folk music scene of the mid-1960s in New York City.

Recording her début album in 1968 and achieving fame first as a songwriter ("Urge for Going", "Chelsea Morning", "Both Sides, Now", "Woodstock") and then as a singer in her own right. Finally settling in Southern California, Mitchell played a key part in the folk rock movement then sweeping the musical landscape. Blue, her starkly personal 1971 album, is regarded as one of the strongest and most influential records of the time. Mitchell also had pop hits such as "Big Yellow Taxi", "Free Man in Paris", and "Help Me", the last two from 1974's best-selling Court and Spark.

In 1975 Joni released "The Hissing of Summer Lawns" which can be seen as an artistic turning point, and the beginning of her unique blend of folk, jazz and rock. It was intended as a concept album of sorts, with the "concept" being the contrast being freedom and slavery, and the idea that wealth and status sometimes ironically place a great many constraints on people's behavior.

Mitchell is also an accomplished visual artist. She has, through photography or painting, created the artwork for each of her albums, and has described herself as a "painter derailed by circumstance". A blunt critic of the music industry, Mitchell has stopped recording over the last several years, and now focuses mainly on her visual art, although she released a new album - Shine on 25th September 2007.
