The Rocket That Grandpa Rode Lyrics

There's an old Gypsy Moth
Made of glue and cloth
That lands in a horse filled field
An unusual event for those palomino gents
Who just stared at their future revealedWhy oh why oh did he fly out of Ohio
Before we knew that genes held the code
But taking to wing, is a haunting, daunting thing
Just like that rocket Grandpa rodeYeah, it was the rocket that Grandpa rode
Sounds like braggin' but it's true
I'm not tryin' to big-time you
Shot up into space and he said look out down below
Gotta love that rocket that Grandpa rodeAnd the kids turned to flying machines
With their arms open wide like wings
But one solitary boy knows a plane is not a toy
I'm talkin' 'bout
The Man on the MoonI still remember July '69
We all got to stay home from school
In stark black and white we followed the flight

And the whole world was in that capsuleOh, on the rocket that Grandpa rode
Sounds like braggin' but it's true
I'm not tryin' to big-time you
Oh what a flight you'd better look out down below
Yeah, that's the rocket that Grandpa rodeSpacemen and women on this bus
An obese driver I don't trust
We're goin' to watch the shuttle fly away last day
And for some kids behind my seat
There's a very special treat
More than just history on paradeGiant nozzles, bolts and beams
They called her Atlas by all means
Blood, sweat and tears were her payload
She was a stairway to heaven
Old Apollo 11
The rocket ship their Grandpa droveYeah on the rocket that Grandpa rode
Sounds like braggin' but it's true
I'm not tryin' to big-time you
Rising up from that lagoon, we beat those Commies to the moon
Yeah on the rocket their Grandpa rode
Yeah on the rocket their Grandpa droveThank you Neil
Thank you NASA
Thank you Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock
And Scotty and Lieutenant Uhura and Chekov...
Yeah the rocket that Grandpa rode

Jimmy Buffett (born December 25, 1946 in Pascagoula, Mississippi, United States) is a singer/songwriter, best known for his "island escapism" lifestyle and music including hits such as "Margaritaville" and "Come Monday". He has a rabid, but genial, cult following known as "Parrotheads." They call the youngest members "Parakeets."

Buffett has written three No. 1 best sellers. Tales from Margaritaville and Where Is Joe Merchant? both spent over seven months on the New York Times Best Seller fiction list. His book A Pirate Looks At Fifty went straight to No. 1 on the New York Times Bestseller non-fiction list, making him one of seven authors in that list's history to have reached No. 1 on both the fiction and non-fiction lists. The other six authors who have accomplished this are Ernest Hemingway, John Steinbeck, William Styron, Irving Wallace, Dr. Seuss and Mitch Albom. He also co-wrote two children's books, Jolly Mon and Trouble Dolls, with his eldest daughter, Savannah Jane Buffett.

"A Salty Piece of Land", was released on November 30, 2004, and included a CD single of the same title. The book was a New York Times best seller soon after its release.

His latest book, "Swine Not," hit bookshelves on May 13th. It's a colorful tale about a family that lives in a posh New York hotel while covertly smuggling in their pet pig named Rumpy.

On Jan 25, 2011, he did an unintentional stage dive whilst touring Australia. Thankfully, the good Mr. Buffett is a resilient bloke and was released from hospital the following day and doing fine.
