The Sweetest Gift Lyrics

One day a mother went to a prison
To see an erring but precious son
She told the warden how much she loved him
It did not matter what he had done
She did not bring to him a parole or pardon
She brought no silver, no pomp or style
It was a halo bright sent down from heaven's light
The sweetest gift, a mother's smile
She left a smile you can remember
She's gone to heaven from heartaches free
Those walls around you could never change her
You were her baby and e'er will be
She did not bring to him a parole or pardon
She brought no silver, no pomp or style
It was a halo bright sent down from heaven's light
The sweetest gift, a mother's smile
She did not bring to him a parole or pardon
She brought no silver, no pomp or style

It was a halo bright sent down from heaven's light
The sweetest gift, a mother's smile
The sweetest gift, a mother's smile

Sweet Potato are a Bristol based group who make complexly nimble rock music. Their tunes come full to the brim with propulsive jazz rhythms, operatic vocals and enormous riffs. Like Faith No More hopping into a time machine and emerging in Canterbury circa 1971, perhaps stopping off in Twin Peaks along the way.

They released three albums of improvisation before unleashing the semi-composed Mash upon the world via Records on Ribs and Foetal Orange in April 2009. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
