The Tracks You Left On Me Lyrics

Words & Music by
Ed Bruce, Jeff Elliott and Mike MorganHow could I have known back at the start
The day might ever come when you would break my heart
Well, here it is but damned if you will ever know
Not a trace of what I feel inside will ever show- Chorus -
I'm not the first and I won't be the last
I can only judge your future by your past
And I would rather die than ever let you see
Any trace of the tracks you left on meI will not go away as time goes by
And I'll walk around your mind until the day you die
And you'll keep wonderin' why you couldn't see
Any trace of the tracks you left on me(Repeat Chorus)You'll never see a sign of the tracks you left on me

William Edwin "Ed" Bruce, Jr. (born December 29, 1939) is an American country music songwriter and singer. He is known for penning the 1975 song "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys" and recording the 1982 country number one hit "You're the Best Break This Old Heart Ever Had". Bruce was born in Keiser, Arkansas and grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. In 1957, at the age of 17, he went to see Jack Clement, a recording engineer for Sun Records. Bruce caught the attention of Sun owner Sam Phillips, for whom he wrote and recorded "Rock Boppin' Baby" (as "Edwin Bruce").
