There's a Star Above the Manger Tonight Lyrics

Brandy and rye, the magpies are stirring
Lay down your last twenty dollars
Shepherds dead sober, whispering numbers
There's a star above the manger tonightDevil gets wise when you start to win
Dead from your pleasure too soon
Horse flies are flying slow
Heavy from your remainsSilver green many mansions above us
Wash up your hands before you dive in
Sweet baby Jesus give me luck at the tables
There's a star above the manger tonight
Turn down the lighthouse low
Let the lost keep staying lost
Shepherds dead sober, whispering numbers
There's a star above the manger tonight

Formed in Chicago out of folk-punk outfit Friends of Betty, Red Red Meat consisted of Tim Rutili (vocals, guitars) and Glynis Johnson (bass, vocals), Brian Deck (drums) and guitarist Glenn Girard. They released their first single, Snowball, in 1991, and their eponymous debut LP in 1992, which was released on their own Perishable records imprint. In the winter of 1992, lawyer Tim Hurley was welcomed into the fold as the new permanent bass player.
