This Way Lyrics

When I was young and naïve
I thought that all you needed
Was something to believe in
And your dreams
But now that I am older
I look over my shoulder
I know that I’ve grown colder
And grown some teeth
(What can I do
To prove to you
That I am
Stronger and finally understand
What can I say
To make you feel like I turned out okay
I never thought I’d be this way
This way)

When I was small you told me
I’d grow up and be happy
Buy a house and get married
And have three kids
But now that I am older
I feel like I know better
Spend weekends in the gutter
With all my friends
(chorus)
When I was young and naïve
I thought that all you needed
Was something to believe in
And your dreams
