To Live Is to Fly Lyrics

I won't say I love you babe
I won't say I need you babe
But I'm going to get you babe
And I will not do you wrongLiving's mostly a wasting time
And I waste my share of mine
But it never feels too good
So let's not take too longI'm as soft as glass
And you're a gentle man
We've got the sky to talk about
And the world to lie uponDays up and down they come
Like rain on a conga drum
Forget most, remember some
But don't turn none awayEverything is not enough
Nothing is too much to bear
Where you been is good and gone
All you keep's the getting thereTo live is to fly low and high
So shake the dust off of your wings
And the sleep out of your eyes

It's goodbye to all my friendsIt's time to go again, think of all the poetry
And all the pickin' down the line
I'll miss the system here
The bottom's low and the treble's clearBut it don't pay to think too much
On the things you leave behind
I may be gone but I won't be long
I'll be bringing back the melody
And all the rhythms that I findWe all got holes to fill
And the holes are all that's real
Some fall on you like a storm
Sometimes you dig your ownBut choice is yours to make
And time is yours to take
Some dive into the sea
Some toil upon the stoneTo live is to fly low and high
So shake the dust off of your wings
And the sleep out of your eyes

The Cowboy Junkies is a Canadian alt-country band formed by three siblings from the Timmins entertainment family (Margo Timmins, vocals; Michael Timmins, songwriter & guitars; Peter Timmins, drums) plus Alan Anton on bass. The group formed in Toronto in 1986. The band's name was simply a random choice as they approached their first ever gig, but it has come to perfectly represent their sound. (Some sources may credit Townes Van Zandt's song "Cowboy Junkies Lament" as the source of the band's name, but that song was written especially for Cowboy Junkies several years after they coined the name.)

The Trinity Session is perhaps their best known record, recorded live in a single day on a single microphone in a church in Toronto. This album also included a unique cover version of Lou Reed's "Sweet Jane". Reed reportedly liked the Junkies' version of the song better than his own, and began performing their version in concert.

None of the band's subsequent albums have been hits outside of Canada, although the band has maintained a dedicated following and have continued to have chart hits in their native country. Following their 1998 album Miles from Our Home, Cowboy Junkies were dropped from their major label contract. They have continued to release albums on their own independent label, Latent Records.
