Having grown up with a musician, it was no surprise that Dorie decided to follow in her fathers footsteps and try a career in music. Dorie started her professional singing career as a backing vocalist for Francis Dunnery. They soon formed a firm friendship and began writing together. In the interim, Francis introduced Dorie to many great musicians and writers, one of which was Chris Difford. Francis was producing Chris' first solo record I Didn't Get Where I Am and he brought Dorie in to do backing vocals. .
