Tow the Line Lyrics

Please let it be known, I am a true blue, cool-aid drinker.
No one that ever knew me would accuse me as a thinker.
If there were a true thought, no not in my dome.
We're it not for the leash I would not make it home.
"Every soldier that served with us believed 9/11 was a lie. We thought the people would expose the lie and bring us home. I got friends that are there in Baghdad in '07 on their third tour, three years in Iraq. So...we're done in Baghdad we killed enough people." -Iraq VeteranYeah!
Bring 'em home!
Yeah! Yeah!
Bring 'em home!
Come On! Come On!Soldier soldier Lay your guns down
You can come home your job is done nowThe Baghdad skies are on fire tonight
We pay the bills while they tow the line
they tow the line yeah they tow the lineThe Baghdad skies are on fire tonight
We pay the bills while they tow the lineWe all remember where we were that day
when the lie was born and the tv played
We danced around in a bloody rage
while the neo-cons laughed and playedThe call went out and the heed was paid
The uniform and the Green Berets
In the wrong time, all in the wrong place

While the war drums beat all night and day awaySoldier soldier Lay your guns down
You can come home your job is done nowThe Baghdad skies are on fire tonight
We pay the bills while they tow the lineThe years went on and nothing changed
The lie was dying and the tv played that same old song
but we're not the same
We're sick and tired of playing that fucked up game
All the politicians are a fucking shame
They don't understand a blue collar man
And the General doesn't fuckin' care
That a mothers son will never be here againSoldier soldier Lay your guns down
You can come home your job is done nowThe Baghdad skies are on fire tonight
We pay the bills while they tow the line
they tow the line yeah they tow the lineThe Baghdad skies are on fire tonight
We pay the bills while they tow the lineThe troops come home to Ward 57
The boys come home confused and forgotten
Wonderin' if Uncle Sam's still listening
to kids in the neighborhoods dying for FREEDOMWe all remember where we were that day
When the lie was born and the tv played
We all know that it wasn't for nothing cuz that was the day
the veil dropped on the illusionSoldier soldier Lay your guns down
You can come home your job is done nowThe Baghdad skies are on fire tonight
We pay the bills while they tow the line
Soldier soldier Lay your guns down
You can come home your job is done nowThe Baghdad skies are on fire tonight
We pay the bills while they tow the line"What's our mission? What's our goal? I thought we were gonna find the people that did 9/11, I thought we were gonna get these weapons of mass destruction. We gotta be of help over there. They're like all we're trying to do is make it home alive. You guys know the lies, but I bled for these lies. I watched my brothers die for these lies." -Iraq Veteran

Hed P.E., previously known as (hed) Planet Earth and stylized as (həd) p.e. is a rapcore band from Huntington Beach, California. Formed in 1994, the band performs a style of music which they refer to as "G-punk". Their music is primarily based in a fusion of punk rock and hip hop, but they have also been known to incorporate elements of heavy metal, reggae and other genres. After releasing three albums on Jive Records, Hed PE left the label to record independently, eventually signing with Suburban Noize Records in 2006. To date, they have released seven studio albums, one live album and one compilation album.

The band was formed by rapper Jared Gomes, also known as "M.C.U.D." (MC Underdog), and guitarist Wes Geer, who became friends amidst the Orange County hardcore punk scene. Gomes and Geer recruited guitarist Chizad, bassist Mawk, drummer B.C. Vaught and DJ Product © 1969. They named the group "Hed", which stands for "higher thought". The band built a following with their energetic performances at local venues, and released the self-financed extended play, Church of Realities. Legal issues forced Hed to change their name, adding "PE", which stood for "Planet Earth".

Hed PE signed with Jive Records, releasing their self-titled debut album in 1997. In his review of the album, Allmusic's Steve Huey wrote that Hed PE "[are] rhythmically looser and funkier than many similar rap-metal bands, although comparisons to Rage Against the Machine are still apt. There are some slow and/or unfocused moments but overall, its aggression will probably play well with late-'90s metal and punk fans. "Due to the label's contractual terms and the disappointing sales of the album, the band found themselves unable to repay the cash advances given to them by Jive. Gomes is quoted as saying "We had these romantic visions of the music industry, and we thought it would be cool to be a punk band on a rap label. So we fulfilled that dream, but it was also probably the worst thing that could have happened. We've had offers from Sony and others that we can't take because we owe Jive so much money."
