True Blue Bill Lyrics

Oh, I live up in the mountains, where all the snakes have legs,
where the hoot-owls talk in English and the roosters lay square eggs.
Oh, I'm a truthful fellow, they call me True Blue Bill, ain't never told a falsehood, and I guess I never will.
Oh, once I was shipwrecked on a island 'cross the sea, and caught by forty cannibals and tied up to a tree.
They seasoned me so nicely, they dumped me in a pot. but I high tailed it out of there 'cause the water was too durned hot.
Oh, I'm a truthful fellow...
I have a horse named Pansy with gorgeous eyes of blue. her tail is tail is pink and curly and she cooks my breakfast too.
Oh, I'm a truthful fellow...

The son of Lucy and Lee Stanley, Ralph Edmond Stanley grew up in rural southwestern Virginia. Ralph learned to play the banjo claw-hammer style from his mother. It was her inspiration, coupled with Ralph's natural ability, which led Ralph and his older guitar-playing brother Carter to form the Stanley Brothers Band in 1946 after his service abroad during World War 2.
