Twenty Years Lyrics

I've thought about the things I need
And I'm willing just to let them be
There's nothing that I'd want anyway
That could take the place of you and all the things you do and sayWe've come so very far in such a little time
And looking back there is only you that I find
Who was willing to give and maybe lose
You've got me tying up my walking shoes, these walking shoesTwenty years on the run
I've only known a setting sun
Burning out on a lonely road
I've come to feel a lighter loadTwenty years on the run
I've only known a setting sun
Burning out on a lonely road
I've come to feel a lighter loadNow it's time we can turn the page
I believe you and I have come of age
All along it was there to see
What was really meant to beOh baby, it's a game, it's the only one in town
It's a game all the changes going 'round
It's taken twenty years to get it on the way

Oh, all I had to do was play, all I had to do was play, yeah

Poco, founded in 1968 by Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Richie Furay and Jim Messina (both inducted 1997 with Buffalo Springfield), was one of the earliest in the "country rock" genre that was later commercially popularized by bands such as the Eagles. The band was completed by Rusty Young (pedal steel guitar, dobro, banjo and mandolin) Randy Meisner on bass and George Grantham on drums. Poco's 1969 debut, "Pickin' Up the Pieces" (the title being a reference to the break-up of Buffalo Springfield), received some critical acclaim but generated very litttle enthusiasm commercially.
