Twilight Lyrics

Over by the wild wood
Hot in summer night
We lay in the tall grass
'Til the early mornin' lightIf I had my way
I'd never get the urge to roam
But a young man serves his country
And an old man guards the homeDon't send me no sweet salutation
Or city silver near and far away
Don't leave me all alone here in the twilight
You know twilight is the loneliest time of dayWell, I never gave it a second thought
It never crossed my mind
What's right, what's not
I ain't the judgin' kindI can take the darkness
Oh, storms flying in the skies
But we all got certain trials
Keep 'em burnin' up insideDon't put me in a frame upon the mantel
For memories roll dusty, old and gray
Don't leave me alone in the twilight

'Cause twilight is the loneliest time of dayDon't leave me all alone here in the twilight
'Cause twilight is the loneliest time of dayYes, it is

Richard Clare "Rick" Danko (December 29 1943 - December 10, 1999) (his birthdate is often mistakenly listed as 1942) was a musician and singer from Green's Corners, near Simcoe, Ontario, probably best known as the bass player and one of three lead singers of The Band. At the age of 14 (1957) Danko booked himself as an opening act for Ronnie Hawkins, & his band The Hawks. Hawkins asked Danko to join his band as a rythym guitarist, though later he would have Danko learn the bass, and by 1960 was Hawkins' bassist.
