Two Steps Back Lyrics

I see the end of every book I've ever read
I see the price of everything I've ever said
I feel the break in every rule I've ever bent
And I hear the sound of all the voices in my headFallin' away, takin' a fall
Can't even find no peace at all
Will we ever change, no takin' it back?
One step forward, two steps backFallin' away, takin' a fall
I can't even find no peace at all
Will we ever change, no takin' it back?
One step forward, two steps back in a two stepI've seen the fallin' buildings on the TV hotel bed
I've seen Mama's babies risk their lives for a wavin' flag
And I heard the Dixie Chickens run their mouths in a foreign land
And then try to take back everything they ever saidFallin' away, takin' a fall
Can't even find no peace at all
Will we ever change, no takin' it back?
One step forward, two steps backFallin' away, takin' a fall
I can't even find no peace at all
Will we ever change, no takin' it back?

One step forward, two steps back in a two stepWill somebody please take this away?
You better watch everything that you say
Because it's gonna come back to youI see the end of every book we've ever read
I see the price of everything you've ever said
And I feel the break in every rule we've ever bent
I still hear the sound of all the voices in my headFallin' away, takin' a fall
Can't even find no peace at all
Will we ever change, no takin' it back?
One step forward, two steps backFallin' away, takin' a fall
I can't even find no peace at all
Will we ever change, no takin' it back?
One step forward, two steps back in a two stepWe're fallin' two steps back
We're fallin' two steps back
We're fallin' two steps back

The group was formed in September 1996 in Memphis, Tennessee. While Memphis was an unlikely place for a grunge / nü-metal band, Saliva was able to follow in the tradition of crafting hard rock songs in radio-friendly format popularized by the likes of Creed and Nickelback. After competing in the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences Grammy Showcase competition, where they advanced to the final round in New York City, the group self-released their self-titled debut album which sold over 10,000 copies in their region, prompting Island Records to take notice.
