Under the Plaintive Sky Lyrics

And so does the downhearted tune
Resound through this murky night
And the wind groan its wistful song
For the ill-lucked dwellers in plightThese two round-shouldered figures
Forward slowly through this grey day
Under the fores'ts white canopy
Out of the drifting snow's wayWith rime dressed-faces they wander
With guilt carved-hearts they flee
With grim stained-minds they hover
Between hope and despairWith rime dressed-faces they wander
With guilt carved-hearts they flee
With grim stained-minds they ponder
If they ever be free of their sinsMay the stars become my eyes
And the wind become my hearing
Let them guide us through
These pitch-dark morningsMay the snowfall end
And the shining moon rise
So we can find our way out

From these all-consuming nightsUnderneath the blanket of stars
Embraced by another cold night
Two round-shouldered figures
Leave these shores behindQuietly they wonder
If they ever will see the light
They now lose in their shadows
Owe to the darkest of nights

Insomnium is a melodic death metal band from Joensuu, Finland. They are influenced by doom metal and progressive metal. Their lyrics often deal with subjects such as darkness, mourning, loss, pain, and nature. Insomnium began to take shape during the bleak spring of 1997. In a quiet town of Joensuu, located in the easternmost part of Finland, four young men were forming a fierce metal band. From the beginning it was clear that this band would make music that was brutal and yet melodic, full of contrasts and changing atmospheres.
