Underground Stream Lyrics

I heard you say youve lost your faith
And hope for the generations
And all of your good deeds dont pay
And you dont get no appreciation
Said you dont get no appreciationWell, theres a hidden vein of water
Steady runnin deep, ever flowin secretly
Just to make the ground green
Theres an underground streamSweet, sweet water
Give to sons and daughters
Blessed like the flowers that drink
From an underground streamWith their hands, with their hands
Have a sweet drink of water from an underground
Sisters and brothers have a sweet drink of water
From an underground stream, yeahCmon people its time we start
Aint no time for hesitation
Before we rip this world apart
Better help create some motivationLike mounds of love for every heart
Like precious grain to feed the nations

Like everyone who plays the part
In liftin' up this whole creation
I said liftin' up this whole creationWell, theres a hidden vein of water
Steady runnin deep, ever flowin secretly
Just to make the ground green
Theres an underground streamSweet, sweet water
Give to sons and daughters
Blessed like the flowers that drink
From an underground streamSweet, sweet water
Give to sons and daughters
Blessed like the flowers that drink
From an underground streamIn their hands, in their hands
Theres a sweet drink of water from an underground
Sisters and brothers have a sweet drink of water
From an undergroundSisters and brothers have a sweet drink of water
From an underground stream

Irma Thomas (b. February 18, 1941, Ponchatoula, Louisiana) whose only national chart hit in a 50 year career is 1963's "Wish Someone Would Care", is an enduring, Grammy winning, soul, gospel, rhythm and blues singer from New Orleans. Known as the "Soul Queen of New Orleans", she is a contemporary of Aretha Franklin and Etta James, but did not tour as relentlessly, and industry support and major commercial success eluded her for decades.
