Unemployed Boyfriend (Re-Recorded) Lyrics

Hi, this is Peggy
Leave me a nice message or I'll kill ya
Hey peggy, it's me
You are never going to believe what happened to me todayI'm sittin' at the unemployment office
Waitin' on my loser of a caseworker in one of those nasty chairs
When from out of nowhere
This total stranger walks right up to me
Sits down, then leans over and says something like
"This is gonna sound a little obsessive''This is gonna sound a little obsessive
This is gonna sound a little bit strange
I have one thing to say
Before I turn and I walk awayThis is gonna sound a little impulsive
This is gonna sound a little insane
I know you don't know me yet
But you and I, we will be together someday, somedayI know, I know, I sound like I'm on drugs
Listen to me when I sayThat ever since when I first saw you
Sittin' on your car outside
You asked for a cigarette

I couldn't stop starin' at your eyesEver since when I first saw you
Looking bored in that plastic chair
With the lights of the office around you
Those blond streaks, they look so pretty in your black hairYou look cool and alternative with that disaffected stare
Yeah you want people to think that you just don't careHey you can be with me
Yeah 'cause I just might be the one
Who will treat you like you're perfect
Who will always make you comeHey you can be with me
Yes I will always let you win
I will never be like those other guys
I will never be your unemployed boyfriendCan you believe he said that to me?
To me, of all people!
I can't even remember the last time a guy took me out
On a date and actually paid for itThis is gonna sound a little bit out there
This is gonna sound a little insane
I keep having the same dream
You will be the mother of my children someday, somedayI heard you sleep with that obnoxious guy
I know he is in that famous band
You look so sad when you are with him
Yes I never see him reach to hold your handYeah you can be with me
Yes I will treat you like a queen
I will go to all those chick flick movies
That I really don't want to seeYeah you can be with me
No I will never let you down
I will never make out with your girlfriend
When I know you're not aroundYes you can be with me
Yeah I just might be the one
Who will treat you like you're special
I will always make you comeYou can be with me
Yes I will always let you win
I will never be like those other guys
I will never be like those other guys
I will never be your unemployed boyfriendCan you believe this? I mean, can this be for real?
No
Then he takes my hand, writes down his number, and just walks away
WhoaI mean wow, but you know the weird thing is
He is actually kinda cute in a really intense way
Kinda like Collin Farrell, you know
Intense but sensitiveAnyway I told my bitchy sister about it, she just laughed at me
I told her, "I'm really excited about it
That I have a really good feeling about this guy"
I told her, "This could be the guy"

Everclear is a rock band formed in Portland, Oregon, USA, in 1992. For most of its existence, Everclear consisted of Art Alexakis (b. 12 April 1962, Los Angeles, California, USA; vocals, guitar), Craig Montoya (b. 14 September 1970; bass, vocals) and Greg Eklund (b. 18 April 1970; drums). Eklund replaced original drummer Scott Cuthbert in 1994. Montoya and Eklund departed the band in 2003, but Alexakis has continued performing as Everclear with a new lineup.

After a solo tour in the fall of 2003, Alexakis decided to continue with Everclear, organizing a new band that made its debut in March of 2004. The new lineup consisted of bass player Sam Hudson, guitarist Dave French, and drummer Eric Bretl. In the summer of 2004, the band added keyboard player Josh Crawley, and swapped Bretl for former Everclear drum tech Brett Snyder. The new lineup released its first recording, a cover of Woody Guthrie's This Land Is Your Land, that summer. A self-released EP of performances recorded for XM Satellite Radio called Closure was given out at shows in the fall of 2004.

Free of a major label, Alexakis spent the ensuing year and half slowly recording material for a new Everclear release. He admitted that the time after the breakup of the original lineup served as a "wake up call", during which he suffered his third divorce and a filing for bankruptcy. Alexakis announced the completion of the album in early 2006,titled Welcome To The Drama Club. The new band is now on Eleven Seven Music.

In August of 2008, drummer Brett Snyder left the band after four years. He was then replaced by Tommy Stewart, who previously played in bands Fuel and Godsmack.
