Waiting for the Day Lyrics

Well, here I am, back in town
Just as the night is comin down
Warm wind blowin through the trees
I watch them swing, I watch them sway
Lie here waiting for the day, hey, heySleep wont come, I need a drink
Stop my head, dont wanna think
Wishing I could be with you
But I know youre so far away
And Im here waiting for the day, hey, heyWater of life pour your light down on me
Take me out of this darkness, sweet star of the sea
Water so sweet, you can open my eyes
You can bring down the rain on this desert so dryOut on the street, shadows fall
Silence speaks, I hear it call
City of the living dead
Count the lights on the motorway
Lie here waiting for the day, hey, hey, alrightWater of life pour your light down on me
Take me out of this darkness, sweet star of the sea
Water so sweet, you can open my eyes

You can bring down the rain on this desert so dryYes, here I am, back in town
Just as the night is comin down
Warm wind blowin through the trees
I watch them swing, I watch them sway
Lie here waiting for the day, hey, hey, alright

Gerald Rafferty (born April 16, 1947, in Paisley, UK and died 4 January 2011) was a Scottish singer and songwriter. In his early years, Gerry Rafferty earned money by the formerly illegal practice of busking on the London Underground. Poetically, his biggest hit "Baker Street" was about busking at a tube station. After working with Billy Connolly (now better known as a comedian) in a band known as The Humblebums, he recorded a first solo album, Can I Have My Money Back.
