Waking Up to Me Lyrics

It's been a long, cold, cold night
It's three in the morning
And I'm driving
With one broken headlight
On the radio storm warnings
And I'm calling just to tell you
But you will not believe
That come sunrise
When your eyes are wide open
You'll be waking up to me
I got a waitress at the table
With one coffee, one shot
I threw them back and weighed my options I've got an aching,
Baby aching to drive on back
But it's snowing clear to Virginia
I am calling just to tell you
But you will not believe that I'd drive all night
Half across this country

To feel you wrap your arms around me
Around me
Out on the highway lately
The miles, they don't talk back
They roll beneath the wheels behind me
It's a toll road winding you give time
But you never get time back
Hey, if you love me
I need reminding
I am calling just to tell you
But you will not believe that come sunrise
When your eyes are wide open
You'll be waking up to me

Ellis Paul (born Paul Plissey, January 14, 1965) is an American singer-songwriter and folk musician. Born in Aroostook County, Maine, Paul is a key figure in what has become known as the Boston school of songwriting, a literate, provocative and urbanely romantic folk-pop style that helped ignite the folk revival of the 1990s. His folk-pop music songs have appeared in movies and on television, and are said to bridge the gap between the modern folk sound and the populist traditions of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger.
