War Dance Lyrics

There's an epidemic
Stirring passions in young hearts
Even the old campaigners
Have got it really badWell, we ain't seen nothing like it
Since coronation dayBut when the street parties sound
I'm going underground
To keep the rabid hounds at bayOh, my, my, this war dance
A patriotic romance
No, we ain't seen nothing like it
Since coronation day
Oh, my, my, myBut when the tickatape flies
And blood is on the rise
You know it's got you in its sway
You've got yourself a war danceThere's a cheap sensation
Keeping Fleet Street wide awake
Everyone wants a slice of
The jingoistic cakeAnd they're resurrecting Churchill
And bringing national service back

Fueling power and glory fever
Makes for a sicker Union JackYeah, I'm talking about this war dance
A patriotic romance
And I know all you poets
Have seen it all beforeAbout the stirring of those young hearts
Back in the first World War
Oh, my, my, this war dancePatriotic romance
This war dance
Gotta a World War Three danceOh, my, my, my, war dance
The stirring of those young hearts, young hearts
War dance, um, war dance, mmm war dance

XTC were an influential rock band (starting out as a post-punk outfit but eventually developing into a sound that was a mix of new wave and alternative/college rock) which formed Swindon, England in 1972. For most of their career, the band consisted of Andy Partridge (vocals, guitar), Colin Moulding (vocals, bass) and Dave Gregory (guitar, keyboards). Gregory replaced founding keyboardist Barry Andrews in 1979 and left himself in 1999.
