We Could Be Kings Lyrics

So this is rejection
And its bringing you down
He told you that hed find work soon
Then he stopped coming around
That was the summer of sweet nights
He used to take you for rides
But it all changed in the backseat
He came insideWell hes seen enough to know
Hes old enough to know whats right from wrong
I know how hard it is to see things throughOh no did it rip you apart?
To be told we could be kings
When we were damned from the start
Oh no did it rip you apart?
They told us we could be kings
When we were damned, damned from the startYou told him you loved him
But pushing come to show
There were no easy answers
Mixing money and blood

He was too young to know better
And you were unemployed
The sergeant promised a cake walk
But then he got deployedIve seen enough, enough to know
Its not about which side youre on
I know how hard it is to keep it inOh no did it rip you apart?
To be told we could be kings
When we were damned from the start
I know that it rips you apart
They told us we could be kings
When we were damned, damned from the startWeve been living to the left of the dial
Hoping drinks and denial will keep us here
Im not promising you some bright side
Were trying to break your stride
But you asked me, you asked meHe was gone in an instant
They say nobody was spared
Not gonna tell you he loved you
Not gonna tell you he caredWell Ive seen enough, enough to know
Sometimes with the truth you gotta let it go
I know how hard it is to keep it inI wont going rip you apart
And tell you, you could be king
I dont wanna break your heart
I wont going rip you apart
So open wide and youll sing
Cause were all damned
Open wide and youll see
Cause were all damned, damned from the start
Were damned from the start

The lead singer of punk band The Loved Ones. In January 2011, he released his debut solo album, 'Resolutions', through Paper + Plastick records - touring extensively to promote it. A statement from the label, quoted on punknews.org, described the record's origins: "While writing the follow-up to the last Loved Ones release (2009's Distractions, Fat Wreck Chords), Hause was writing songs that didn't seem like they would fit on a Loved Ones record.
