What I Been Through Lyrics

Advisory - the following lyrics contain explicit language:
Hi, this is the Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous
Today we're interviewing Lil' Flip, what's up man
So Lil' Flip tell me, how long have you been rapping?
Man, I've been rappin' ever since1995 I was in junior high
I saw a lotta shit, so I was glad to be alive
A lot of people died, but a lot of people here
And when I turned 15, my vision got clearIt's time to be a man, time to make a plan
It's cool to make a hundred, but it's best to make a grand
My granny got sick and then they found cancer
We got to pay the doctors but God got the answerThe surgery went good, my Granny doin' well

My career takin' off, so I can't go to jail
And to my niggas on the block, stop sellin' rocks
'Cause I'ma tell the truth you can't outsmart the copsYou see what I did, I only drop hits
Choppin' up game, y'all choppin' up bricks
And some niggas snitch 'cause they can't take the heat
How we gon' go buy a system when the system got his beatHey, I'm from the home of the Astros, home of the Rockets
Born to rap yo, with a microphone in my pocket
Always thought I was grown, you couldn't tell me nothin'
I would talk shit if you tried to tell me somethin'But I regret that, I had some minor setbacks
Old people thought my future would be jet black
All my years growin' up, I thought life was a game
You can't make it real far, thinkin' life is a gameYet we lost a couple of friends, I almost lost my brother
I don't know what would've happened if we lost each other
Everyday is somethin' new, I just take it in strides
You only got one life, so enjoy the rideSometimes I was paid, sometimes I was broke
Me and Gray started hustlin' but my Mama didn't know
But it's cool, 'cause now I'm into this music
The man gave us a gift and we lovin' to use itAnd if you look real close you'll see
That you can only be you, and I can be me
Because can't nobody ever live my life but me
But you will never see what I see like me, ha, me, ha'Cause you don't know what I've been through
(So you shouldn't judge me)
And you don't know what I will and I won't do
(So you shouldn't judge me)And you don't know what I've been through
(So you shouldn't judge me)
And you don't know what I will and I won't do
(So you shouldn't judge me)It's gettin' harder now I just don't understand
Why the people in the world disgrace the black man
All that I can say, is pray and let it be
Live right and try your best not to end up like meSee I was the nigga that slang dope and steal cars
Glad I stopped before it led behind bars
Heart aches and scars, help me feel my way
Understand today I got a decision to makeNow do I wanna live right or continue goin' wrong
I'm never at home, this music keep a nigga gone
But this is what gets me, who are you to judge
'Cause I'm young and black, people still hold a grudgeJust a nudge right now'd push me over the end
When I was 14, I lost a very close friend
And ever since then my life ain't been the same
That's the biggest reason why I had to make a changeNever judge a book by it's cover, a man by his wealth
And if you already on your feet why don't you help somebody else
This what I was taught, so that's what I live by
'Cause you can't take none of this shit with you when you dieSo everyday I try to keep my head high
But these bird ass niggas always jump fly
Should I take 'em out the game, nah, I'ma use my brain
I'm a kill 'em with kindness, and blow up my nameI came from nothin', and now I got a little change
A nigga happy now but I went through some pain
And everyday it rain, there's gone be some sunshine
I never thought I could put my whole life in one rhyme'Cause you don't know what I've been through
(So you shouldn't judge me)
And you don't know what I will and I won't do
(So you shouldn't judge me)And you don't know what I've been through
(So you shouldn't judge me)
And you don't know what I will and I won't do
(So you shouldn't judge me)

Wesley Eric Weston, Jr. (born March 3, 1981), better known by his stage name Lil' Flip, is a multi-Platinum American rapper. He is known for his freestyle ability and claims to have been on 1000 mixtapes.

Lil' Flip's career was launched when he released his first album "The Leprechaun". The album quickly gained national attention and spawned the hit single "I Can Do That". The album sold over 100,000 copies regionally and gained attention from Def Jam South, A & R, and well-known Houston rapper Scarface. He was briefly signed to Def Jam, but abruptly left the label a few years later after concerns about his financial earnings. He soon signed to Loud Records and began recording his first national debut album.

While recording his album, he was apparently shot by unknown assailants in a drive-by shooting. He survived the attack and pressed on to finish the album. At the age of 20, Lil' Flip released his sophomore album "Undaground Legend", his first nationally released album, which included the hit single "The Way We Ball" and a remix to his hit "I Can Do That". The album reached platinum status even though it didn't get much promotion from Loud Records.

Lil' Flip recorded his third album "U Gotta Feel Me" on Sony Records. This album was more commercial and featured Ludacris, Three 6 Mafia, and others. The album debuted at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and #3 on the Hip-Hop/R&B charts. It quickly became a crossover success with the Billboard Hot 100 Top 20 single "Game Over". The single used the Namco Pac-Man beat and the video showed Lil' Flip getting a tattoo while rapping to the single. The single reached #1 on the hip-hop charts. His follow-up single, the lover's anthem "Sunshine" featuring Lea, became the second hit single on Lil' Flip's album and went to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. It gained numerous requests on MTV 2 and BET. The album was certified double platinum.

Lil' Flip is known for his unique screwed style of freestyling (a form of slowed down rap technique) and for always releasing double disc CDs whenever he releases an album. He credits all of his success to the late DJ Screw and has tattooed DJ Screw's name on his arms. Lil' Flip has been credited for his lyrics by Three 6 Mafia, David Banner, Fam-Lay, Young Buck, UGK, Ludacris, among others. He has announced himself as the "King of The South" and the "Freestyle King".
