What a World Lyrics

Advisory - the following lyrics contain explicit language:
What do you see when look at me and I'm just standing there?
Shit, that make the world all work, that's what in my blood
And I won't stop until I drop 'cause my life's just burning out
So walk, keep climbing, won't look down until I reach the topWhat a world, what a world
What a world, what a world
What a world, what a world
What a world, what a worldA little boy from Chicago had dreams to be a star
And make a way and get some pay and drive a fancy car
Though his mama used to say to him, "Hey boy, just go school"
But whether it was old or new in school he broke the rulesWhat do you see when look at me and I'm just standing there?

Shit, that make the world all work, that's what in my blood
And I won't stop until I drop 'cause my life's just burning out
So walk, keep climbing, won't look down until I reach the topWhat a world, what a world
What a world, what a world
What a world, what a world
What a world, what a worldNow his whole life he told his boys, "Hey y'all, I'm going to rap"
So when he got a rap contract, it wasn't no turning back
Now his mama she would say to him
"You need to get, get back in school"
And all the trash that the peoples say he was using it for fuelWhat do you see when look at me and I'm just standing there?
Shit, that make the world all work, that's what in my blood
And I won't stop until I drop 'cause my life's just burning out
So walk, keep climbing, won't look down until I reach the topWhat a world, what a world
What a world, what a world
What a world, what a world
What a world, what a worldAnd the story goes on and on, it goes on and on and on
They say, "Hey boy, you rap real good but ain't making no hit songs"
So he'd tell himself, yo, yo, yo self you gotta do it the way you do
And make this music from your soul and make it fresh and newWhat do you see when look at me and I'm just standing there?
Shit, that make the world all work, that's what in my blood
And I won't stop until I drop 'cause my life's just burning out
So walk, keep climbing, won't look down until I reach the topWhat a world, what a world
What a world, what a world
What a world, what a world
What a world, what a worldThen the game, it started to change
They say music just ain't the same
Though he remained the song he is sang
Just keep your drive, stay in your laneInch by inch the people came
They started to know his name and say you do your thang
Now the whole, whole world singing his song
From Chicago a star it born, wowWhat do you see when look at me and I'm just standing there?
Shit, that make the world all work, that's what in my blood
And I won't stop until I drop 'cause my life's just burning out
So walk, keep climbing, won't look down until I reach the topWhat a world, what a world
What a world, what a world
What a world, what a world
What a world, what a world

Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr. (born March 13, 1972 in Chicago, Illinois), better known by his stage name Common (previously Common Sense), is a Grammy award winning rapper, author and actor known for lyrics that focus on love and spirituality. Signed to Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music, many people describe him as being a conscious hip hop artist who makes songs that send a message. He debuted in 1992 with the album Can I Borrow a Dollar? and maintained a significant underground following into the late 90s, after which he gained notable mainstream success through his work with the soulquarians.

As well as music, Common has worked as an actor, on the films 'Smokin' Aces' (as Sir Ivy) 'American Gangster' (as Turner Lucas) and 'Wanted'. He may also be seen in cameo roles in films such as 'Brown Sugar'.

His debut was the 1992 album Can I Borrow A Dollar, but he achieved little critical or commercial success until 1994's Resurrection, an instant classic. He produced several more albums, notably Like Water For Chocolate and the highly experimental Electric Circus, before releasing the Kanye West and J Dilla-produced Be in 2005, which was his first album to receive widespread mainstream appeal and radio playtime.

Common is considered a "cred" artist, which has lead him to collaborations with the likes of De La Soul, Jadakiss, T.i, Talib Kweli, The Roots, Kanye West, Lily Allen, Erykah Badu, and Fort Minor.

2007's Finding Forever was produced mainly by long-time collaborator, Kanye West.

Universal Mind Control is the 8th album from Chicago hip-hop artist Common.
