What's It Take? Lyrics

(Robert Palmer)You're lonely can I see you
I hire a private red-eye rocket
But when I walk in here
You want to go through all my pocketsWhat's it take?
Mamma what's it take?I've known you all these years
And still you overhaul my letters
They don't confirm your fears
But when I'm dead you'll know me betterWhat's it take?
Mamma what's it take?My mistake was thinking I had it covered
I haven't made the first move
What's it take to get it through to you mamma?
What does it take to love you?I take you out to dinner
You ask me why I'm acting guilty
I thought I'd backed a winner
This love affair is gonna kill meWhat's it take?
Mamma what's it take? You say you're only teasing
I want to try a new position
You want to know the reason

I've got a Spanish InquisitionWhat's it take?
Mamma what's it take?My mistake was thinking I had it covered
I haven't made the first move
What's it take to get it through to you mamma?
What does it take to love you?I want to hear the gossip
You say I like a real ambition
I ask you if you've got it
You document my inhibitionsWhat's it take?
Mamma what's it take?
Mamma what's it take?
What's it take?

Robert Allen Palmer (January 19, 1949 – September 26, 2003), born in Batley, Yorkshire, England, was a British singer. He was known for his soulful voice and the eclectic mix of musical styles on his albums, combining soul, jazz, rock, reggae, blues, and even yodeling.

His eighties hits were promoted by particularly striking award winning videos, featuring an all-female, black-clad backing band. The memorable videos, directed by Terence Donovan, featured heavily on MTV and played a large part in his transatlantic success.

His eighties success was kickstarted by his participation in supergroup The Power Station, along with Andy Taylor and John Taylor of Duran Duran and Tony Thompson of Chic.

Robert Palmer died on September 26, 2003 in Paris, France, while staying at the Warwick de berri Hotel. The cause of death was of a heart attack.
