What's This World Lyrics

We got mouths to feed and boots to fill
Pills for sleep and dreams of dollar bills
We clean our guns while we turn our cheeks
We're like angels and demons and dogs in heat
Baby raise your glass but don't cut your teeth
Just show your sweet tooth grin to everyone you meetTell me what's this world that we're clinging to
It's all for one none for two
Pierce your skin with a heart tattoo
And tell me what's this world that we're clinging to
I see floods every Spring and water for sale
All the drunks in the tank trying to throw their bail
You know I lost an old friend like a thief in the night
The days done took the light out of her eyes
We got to change our ways every New Years' Day
Just give me one last midnight before I gotta payTell me what's this world that we're clinging to
It's all for one none for two
Pierce your skin with a heart tattoo
And tell me what's this world that we're clinging toI see highway miles are gonna pave the way

Billboards digging their roots in our graves
We got debts to pay and all cards are drawn
They'll be paying our dues long after we're gone
Tell me what's this world that we're clinging to
It's all for one none for two
Pierce your skin with a heart tattoo
And tell me what's this world that we're clinging to
It's all for one none for two
Pierce your skin with a heart tattoo
And tell me what's this world that we're clinging to

The Band of Heathens are an Americana band from Austin, Texas. The three principal songwriters - Colin Brooks, Ed Jurdi and Gordy Quist - shared the bill at Momo's, an Austin club. Originally, each singer/songwriter performed his own set. However, they eventually started sharing the stage, and collaborating together with bassist Seth Whitney. The Wednesday night series was billed as "The Good Time Supper Club". A misprint in a local paper billed the act as "The Heathens." In 2007, drummer John Chipman joined the band.
