When Did You Ever Listen to Me Lyrics

I've tried some straight conversation
Even whispered the words in your ear
I've talked 'til I'm blue in the face and
Thought I made myself perfectly clearNow I'm on the edge of leavin'
And you're asking how can that be?
I've wasted too much breath explainin'
Oh, and when did you ever listen to me?I could stand at the mouth of a canyon
Yell the truth straight into the wind
I can't take being taken for granted
And I wish I could make it sink inI could tell you you're gonna get lonely
And just how sorry you'll be
But you won't believe me until I am gone
When did you ever listen to me?You'll have to watch the doors slam behind me
Smell the cloud of dust from my car
Taste your own tears on the pillow
Feel the break deep in your heartMaybe then you'll come to your senses
And you'll hear what I can't make you see
When you ask yourself the same question

Oh, when did you ever listen to me?I could stand at the mouth of a canyon
Yell the truth straight into the wind
I can't take being taken for granted
And I wish I could make it sink inI could tell you you're gonna get lonely
And just how sorry you'll be
But you won't believe me until I am gone
When did you ever listen to me?
When did you ever listen to me?
