Wild and Wonderful Lyrics

She said she took a ride
At the fair last night
She said the world was changing
But she won't get uptightPull up a chair
I'll give you a reason to be scared
Now try to remember
Whatever made you stop and stareHe said he spoke to God
In a dream last night
He said that God had told him
It'll be alrightIt's all in the Bible, they tell me that it's all in there
So give me the distance, I'll come close to being thereBut then, stop, ask the question, Why?
Stop, give yourself a reason to cryWhere do those wild and wonderful people disappear to
Where do those lost and heavenly days disappear toThey said they had a rave
In a field last night
They said they must have gone there
Cause it was out of sightWell keep it in your pocket
And save it for a sunny day
No don't talk about the time

There's so much more to sayWe could jump upon the baracades
Scream aloud our pain
But it's not enough to sacrifice
Until you've touched the flameSo take a look in my eyes and tell me what you see in there
Now go to the window, there someting going on out thereOh if you should stop, and ask the question, Why?
Stop, give yourself a reason to cryWhere do those wild and wonderful people disappear to
Where do those lost and heavenly days disappear to

Sham 69 formed in Hersham, Surrey in 1976 (the 12 November issue of NME notes they were rehearsing at this time, although only Jimmy Pursey would remain from this early line-up 12 months later). Sham 69 lacked the art school background of many British punk bands of the time, and brought in football chant back-up vocals and a sort of inarticulate political populism. The band had a large skinhead following (left wing, right wing and non-political), which helped set the tone for the Oi! movement.
