World to Cry Lyrics

You think you know it all but what do you know
You think you love someone but where did it go
You learn to trust yourself but not for long
You think you're the one that wrote the very last love songYou try to catch yourself before you fall
You try to brace yourself when you're up against the wall
It was so easy when we knew how to fightYou think you're the one that taught the world to cry
You taught the world to cry, you taught the world to cry
You think you're the one that taught the world to cry
And once you've had the best, the rest won't do
And when it's all over it's all over for you
And when you ask yourself just what went wrong
Is there time to sing just one more love songCry cry cry till you're misunderstood
Dry your eyes like it does any good
Cry cry cry and when your crying is through
Will there be anyone left to cry for youYou taught the world to cry, you taught the world to cry
You think you're the one that taught the world to crySometimes you pinch yourself just to see if it's real
Sometimes you choke yourself just to see how it feels
And when you ask yourself the reason whyYou think you're the one

You think you're the one
Yeah you think you're the one that taught the world to cry
You think you're the one that taught the world to cry
You taught the world to cry, you taught the world to cry
You think you're the one that taught the world to cry
You taught the world to cry, you taught the world to cry
You think you're the one
Well so did I, I, I, I

Along with Let's Active, the dB's defined the Southern power pop/jangle pop movement of the early to mid-'80s. The band's music was a quirky blend of smart pop and psychedelia crossed with the more experimental side of new wave. Though they never received widespread recognition outside of critical acclaim, they provided a key link between Big Star and '80s alternative guitar acts such as R.E.M. Formed in 1978 in Winston-Salem, NC, the original lineup of the band featured Chris Stamey (guitar, vocals, keyboards), Gene Holder (bass), and Will Rigby (drums).
