Years Gone By Lyrics

Years gone by start to show
I still wait for the door to close
When, you go, when you go
I don't know myself anymoreWhat might have been you'll never know
Time's a thief and stole the show
Long ago, long ago
Nights turned slow
Thunder would rollWinters rise white as snow
Right as I turn around to go
The wind blows, the wind blows
Caught in the cold
A wheel for my shoulderFires rage across the bow
Warning shots failed again somehow
Without you, without you
I'll never hold
Young hearts grown old
I don't know myself anymore

Their songs disguise the youth of the members of the band. Befittingly, so do the old guitars they play and old clothing they wear. But to be sure, The Milk Carton Kids have something new to present: harmonies & minimalist instrumentation which are a clear reference to times passed, but with an eye intently on the future; a perspective on coming-of-age in the eye of a present-day storm; and the chronicling of an American struggle for simplicity, at least musically.
