You Don't Pull No Punches, But You Don't Push The Lyrics

When you were a child, you were a tomboy
Your sole satisfaction way back in shady lane
Do you remember, darlin'?And it's the woman in you and it's the woman in you
You're sole satisfaction and it take the child in you to know
The woman and you are oneWe're goin' out in the country to get down to the real soul,
I mean the real soul, people, talkin' 'bout the real soul people
We're goin' out in the country, get down to the real soul
We're gettin' out to the west coastShining our light into the days of bloomin' wonder
Goin' as much with the river as not, as not, yeah, yeah
An' I'm goin' as much with the river as not
Yeah, yeah, right, yeahBlake and the Eternals, standin' with the Sisters of Mercy
Looking for the Veedon Fleece, yeah
William Blake and the Eternals, standin' with the Sisters of Mercy
Looking for the Veedon Fleece, yeahYou don't pull no punches, but you don't push the river
You don't pull no punches, and you don't push the river
You don't pull no punches, and you don't push the river, no, no
Goin' as much with the river as notWe're goin' out in the West, down to the cathedrals
We're goin' out in the West, down to the beaches

And the Sisters of Mercy, behind the sun
Oh, behind the sunAnd William Blake and the Sisters of Mercy
Looking for the Veedon Fleece
You don't pull no punches, goin' west, goin' as much
With the river as not, with the river as not, with the river as not
Goin' as much, goin' as much with the river as not, noYou don't pull no punches, and you don't push the river, no
You don't pull no punches, but you don't push the river, no
You don't pull no punches, but you don't push the river, no
You don't pull no punches, but you don't push the riverAnd we was contemplating Baba, William Blake and the Eternals
Goin' down to the Sisters of Mercy, looking for the Veedon Fleece
Looking for the Veedon Fleece, looking for the Veedon Fleece
Looking for the Veedon FleeceYou don't pull no punches, but ya, you don't push the river
You don't pull no punches, but ya, you don't push the river, no
You don't pull no punches, but ya, you don't push the river
You don't push the river, you don't push the river

George Ivan Morrison (generally known as Van Morrison) (born 31 August 1945) is a Grammy Award-winning artist from Belfast, Northern Ireland. He's a singer, songwriter, author, poet, and multi-instrumentalist, who has been a professional musician since 1958. He plays a variety of instruments, including the guitar, harmonica, keyboards, drums, and saxophone. Featuring his characteristic growl - a unique mix of folk, blues, Irish, scat, and Celtic influences - Morrison is widely considered one of the most unusual and influential vocalists in the history of rock and roll.

Known as "Van the Man" by his fans, Morrison first rose to prominence as the lead singer of the Northern Irish band Them, writing their 1964 hit "Gloria". A few years later, Morrison left the band for a successful solo career, starting with the album Astral Weeks.

Morrison has pursued an idiosyncratic musical path. Much of his music is tightly structured around the conventions of American soul and R&B, such as the popular singles "Brown Eyed Girl", "Moondance", "Domino", and "Wild Night". An equal part of his catalogue consists of lengthy, loosely connected, spiritually inspired musical journeys that show the influence of Celtic tradition, jazz, and stream-of-consciousness narrative, such as his classic album Astral Weeks and lesser known works such as Veedon Fleece and Common One. The two strains together are sometimes referred to as "Celtic Soul," and Morrison rejects the characterization of his genre of music as Rock, citing Elvis Presley as a non-influence.

He continues to perform regularly, and achieved his highest U.S. chart position (number ten on the Billboard 200) with his latest album, Keep It Simple.
