You Must Be Mad Lyrics

Careers and jobs don't fall from the sky
These days you have to grovel on your knees now
It's enough to make you cry, yeah yeah yeah
He wanted to see some of the world
Wear a uniform, impress the girls
Have a little money when on leave
And he wanted to settle down
He settled down in a hole in the ground
In that training scheme in Port Stanley
'Cos you know as killing comes and goes, this one wins votes
You must be mad
Well I thought you had a lot more sense than that
You must be mad
But I found out, you're not that kind of lad
You are simply mad
He got under the feet of his family at home
That pressure finally made his mind up
It's enough to make you cry, yeah, yeah, yeah

He wanted to see some of the world
Thought uniforms impressed the girls
Have a little pride no-one here could give
And he wanted to settle down
He settled down in a hole in the ground
In that training scheme in Port Stanley
And you know, as killing comes and goes, this one wins votes
You must be mad
Well I thought you had a lot more sense than that
You must be mad
But I found out, you're not that kind of lad
You must be mad (repeated)
But it all comes down to you

The Newtown Neurotics, an underated British punk band with a socialist lyrical bent whose classic first album "Beggars Can be Choosers" in 1983 was stylistically indebted to the Ramones, but with outraged lyrics more akin to political punkers The Clash. The band formed in suburban Newtown Harlow Essex outside London, but eventually dropped the "Newtown" from its name and broadened their approach, including slower tempos and horn arrangements.
