You Woke Up My Neighbourhood Lyrics

As I wait for sleep to drag me under
In the evening gloom, I sit and wonder
The words I should have said to you
The things I've always meant to do
The bad dreams that all came trueYou woke up my neighbourhood
Night after night, we would row
You woke up my neighbourhood
Things are pretty quiet 'round here nowWhen I think of how we were together
I know we couldn't be like that for ever
Beneath the Seven Sister stars
The night we let it go too far
I slept out in the carYou woke up my neighbourhood
Night after night, we would row
You woke up my neighbourhood
Things are pretty quiet 'round here nowI remember skipping on the porch till it grew cold
I remember feeling like I was eight years oldSomersaults across the lawn
Singing dancing up till dawn
Every now and then we'd have a row

You woke up my neighbourhood
Things are pretty quiet 'round here nowYou woke up my neighbourhood
Night after night, we would row
You woke up my neighbourhood
Things are pretty quiet 'round here nowYou woke up my neighbourhood
Night after night, we would row
You woke up my neighbourhood
Things are pretty quiet 'round here nowAround here now

Billy Bragg (Stephen William Bragg, Barking, Essex, England, 20 December, 1957) is an English singer-songwriter and left-wing activist. His music blends elements of folk music, punk rock and protest songs, and his lyrics mostly deal with political or romantic themes. In 1977, Bragg formed the punk rock/pub rock band Riff Raff, and toured London's pubs and clubs. The band released a series of singles, which did not receive wide exposure. He also worked in Guy Norris Records in Barking.
