In 1973-74 Spilverk Þjóðanna was formed by a group of students in Menntaskolinn við Hamrahlið. Gaining almost instant attention in Iceland, the band was considered as different from the disco pop which was popular at the time. Spilverk Þjóðanna released 6 albums, and 2 compilations albums. Members: Valgeir Guðjónsson, Egill Ólafsson, Sigurður Bjóla Garðarsson and Sigrún 'Diddú' Hjálmtýsdóttir.
