Himalayan Bear is Ryan Beattie from Victoria, Vancouver Island BC. He's been writing songs, touring around and playing in other island bands like Chet and Frog Eyes for over 12 years. He is somewhat of a crooner with a penchant for fuzzy guitar and melancholy vocal melodies.

His good friend and musical peer David P Smith had this to say about him:

"Himalayan Bear is an omnivore and will eat grasses, roots and other plants as well as insects and small mammals. He also like fruits and berries, and will occasionally prey on large mammals, including sheep and goats. He will eat before sunrise and later during the afternoon. Sometimes he will start to drink beer in th...e afternoon. His taste runs from European style pilsners to a variety of local micro-brewed products, often with a distinctly hoppy finish. His songs are cinematic both in their musical scope and narrative thread. His distinct cry is most usually heard in the evening, on occasion until lthe early hours of the morning. When drinking whiskey, Himalayan Bear`s behaviour may become erratic."

Himalayan Bear hosts a revolving lineup of talented musical friends (each in turn playing in several other bands as is the way in Victoria) as it's band. This allows for each tour, show and recording to be approached with a slightly different timbre.
