The Art Department was originally an experiment by Jonathan Ehrens. He thought of the idea and recorded the album in one weekend in 2005. The result of these sessions is the album, "The Art Anthologies." After showing some friends, a band formed, with Jason Howe on bass and Mike Meno on the drums. A rotating cast of tambourine players was used, until the band decided to drop the tambourine altogether. Since, the band has played several live shows and has written many new songs together.
