Bul-Bul
Murtuza Mammadov (1897-1961) was one of azerbaijan's most famous opera singers. He was given the nickname "Bul-Bul" from the Azeri word for "nightingale", which is considered the sweetest of all bird songsters. He was a great singer (lyrical-dramatic tenor) and a teacher. He received his education at the Azerbaijan State Conservatoire (1921-1927) and in Italy (1927-1931).
He synthesized the best traditions of the profession of the folklore singing of Azerbaijan and Russian and European schools of singing.
